If you live in South Africa and are preparing a short-stay Schengen visa application for Switzerland, use this guide to check your flight evidence and find the relevant application route. The guidance here covers short-stay applications; use the appropriate official checklist for the purpose of your visit.

Flight itinerary and application guidance

Use a round-trip flight reservation showing your name, dates and flight numbers. The Swiss authorities advise you to wait until your visa is issued before buying the actual flight ticket. We recommend a genuine reservation with a booking reference (PNR). Include evidence of transport between Schengen countries if your trip covers more than one. Submit through VFS Global and confirm your centre when booking. If you are a family member of a Swiss, EU or EFTA citizen, you can also apply directly at the responsible Swiss mission with an appointment.

A PNR is a booking reference for a flight reservation. It does not by itself mean that a flight ticket has been issued. A ticketed itinerary includes a ticket number.

Where to apply in South Africa

Application provider: VFS Global for the Swiss Regional Consular Centre Southern Africa in Pretoria.

Application cities: Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town.
