Portugal’s short-stay guidance lists a return travel reservation. Tripenger recommends a genuine reservation with PNR as stronger evidence than a schedule-only itinerary; its guidance does not expressly require a PNR or a paid ticket. The Portuguese Embassy is listed in Harare; confirm appointment and document details with the mission.

Recommended Flight Itinerary Type

Based on the guidance linked above, we recommend considering a flight reservation with a PNR to show your planned travel. Tripenger’s PNR package includes an airline booking reference, subject to airline availability. The guidance does not explicitly require a PNR, so please check the latest requirements with the relevant visa authority before ordering.

Choose Your Package and Order Your Flight Itinerary

A Portugal trip might include a Lisbon holiday, a stay in Porto or time with friends and relatives. Zimbabwean ordinary passport holders normally need a visa. A Schengen visa (type C) is for short visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Longer plans use Portugal’s separate national visa categories, including study and residence routes. This guide concentrates on short-visit flights and the questions to settle before ordering an itinerary.

Start with the Portuguese Embassy in Harare for the current Zimbabwe submission instructions and checklist. Tripenger recommends a genuine flight reservation with a PNR when reservation evidence is requested. Do not assume that an online application, a proposed schedule and a confirmed reservation prove the same thing: each has a different purpose.

Choose your flight itinerary when your journey and document requirement are clear. After visa approval, compare flights to Portugal on Tripenger.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I submit my Portugal visa application in Zimbabwe?
Start with the Portuguese Embassy in Harare and ask for the current submission arrangements for Zimbabwe residents. Its official contact email is harare@mne.pt. Request the short-stay appointment procedure and document checklist before attending or travelling to another country. An embassy contact listing confirms where to enquire; it does not confirm that walk-in visa submissions are available.
What type of flight itinerary do I need for Portugal?
For a checklist asking for a flight booking, choose a genuine reservation with a PNR. Tripenger recommends this option for an ordinary Portugal visit. Ask the Harare visa section whether it also accepts a proposed schedule without a booking reference before selecting Basic. If an issued ticket is specifically requested, a reservation alone is a different document.
Do I have to buy a paid flight ticket before my Portugal visa is approved?
Get the Embassy’s instruction before committing to a non-refundable flight. Ask specifically whether a reservation is sufficient when you lodge the application or whether an issued ticket is needed. Buying an itinerary does not buy the flight, and a PNR does not by itself prove ticket issuance. Review the airline’s fare rules if you choose to buy before the decision.
Can I book a different flight after my visa is approved?
Usually, yes. You can choose another airline or flight time for the same genuine visit to Portugal. Keep travel within the visa’s validity, permitted stay and entries, and update accommodation and insurance as needed. Carry your current booking confirmations when travelling. Ask the issuing authority about changes to your main destination or purpose. Once approved, search Tripenger for flight deals to Portugal.
How long will my flight reservation remain valid?
A reservation with a PNR lasts until the airline’s ticketing or cancellation deadline; it is not automatically held until your visa decision. Check the deadline before ordering and make sure the booking is valid when you submit it. If the visa office later requests updated evidence, arrange a fresh reservation. A schedule-only itinerary has no reserved seats to expire.
What if I am staying with friends or relatives in Portugal?
For a private visit, ask the Embassy what invitation, accommodation and sponsorship documents your host must provide. Portugal uses a termo de responsabilidade in relevant cases; confirm whether it is required and how the signature must be certified for your application. Give your real host address and dates, and explain separately who will pay the costs.
Can I fly to Madrid and travel by land to Portugal?
Yes, if that is the journey you genuinely plan. Include the Madrid-to-Portugal connection and show the Portuguese accommodation or host stay. A Spanish arrival airport does not automatically make Spain the right country for the application. Where Portugal is the main destination, follow Portugal’s visa route and explain the complete journey into and out of Schengen.
Does Portugal’s online visa application mean I can skip the appointment?
Do not assume so. An online form or upload is not, by itself, confirmation that your visa application has been lodged or that an appointment is unnecessary. Follow the Harare Embassy’s instructions for presenting your passport, documents and biometrics. Keep the application reference and appointment confirmation; a flight itinerary order is separate from the visa application.
Does this advice also apply to a student or long-stay visa?
For a degree, employment or a move to Portugal, use the national visa category matching your plan. Portugal has different temporary-stay and residence routes, so a tourist checklist is not a complete long-stay guide. Ask the Embassy which flight evidence is required for your category rather than ordering a short return journey that conflicts with the intended stay.
How do I order a flight itinerary for Portugal on Tripenger?
Go to Tripenger’s itinerary page, enter your proposed journey and select the package matching your document requirement. Basic supplies a flight schedule without a PNR and is delivered within 10 minutes of payment confirmation. Choose a PNR package when you need a reservation, and check its delivery and hold terms. Airline booking retrieval is subject to the airline’s systems and ticketing deadlines. Tripenger does not decide your visa application.
Can I order an accommodation itinerary or hotel booking on Tripenger?
Not yet. Tripenger does not currently provide accommodation itineraries or hotel bookings. Arrange real hotel bookings or the required host documents directly. Before paying, check whether the booking can be cancelled and what evidence the Embassy expects for your full stay. A flight itinerary covers your flights only.
Can I buy travel insurance for Portugal on Tripenger?
Not yet. Tripenger does not currently sell travel insurance; buy your policy separately from an insurer. For an ordinary short-stay Schengen application, arrange insurance for all Schengen countries and the full visit, with at least €30,000 for emergency medical and repatriation costs. Confirm any local policy instructions with the Embassy. An itinerary purchase does not include insurance.
